My boys helped secure the wreaths to the memorial in Rottingdean (East Sussex) this morning. I then had lunch with the Rottingdean British Legion members. Got chatting with a local man , George, who flew 44 sorties in Halifax and Mosquitos. Absolute legend of a man. When the war was over he went straight back to his job with Pickfords removals and stayed with them until he retired in 1982.

Not unexpectedly, the pages of the Times this morning (Monday the 10th) included many photos of the commemoration services that were held throughout the world.

One photo, on the front page was particularly poignant because it showed a four year old paying tribute to his late father who was never to have seen his son.

I was instantly reminded of my nephew Mike Goldstein who lost his dad at his tender age of five and who, as a direct result, was to go through his formative years without that parental support: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/97/a8858497.shtml

Lest we forget the children of those who died whilst serving their country.

    Hi,

I watched the Cenotaph ceremony this Sunday the 9th of November on the TV.

Then yesterday when I was able to walk went to the Village War memorial in the afternoon and stood for a minute, just thinking.

    Regards, Mick D.

    Stan,

I think that the half scale WW1 Tank was a wonderful gesture to commemorate the 100 years since the start of the WW1 and I hope the Memorial is around for a Long time.

    Regards

A bit late posting but I do have a valid excuse.
13,000 mile journey for Remembrance in Taiwan.

    Kukutsu Jungle Camp
    Taihoku Camp #6
    Shirakawa Camp #4
    Heito Camp #3
    Kaohsiung Hellship Memorial

And what an ambassador we had with us.
Meet George, 96 years old and determined to travel with us to his old camps.
Not content with 13,000 miles he travelled on to Singapore afterwards.

Stan, that Tank is amazing, a wonderful gesture and a great piece of topiary artwork.

By tradition, the Annual AJEX Remembrance Service & Parade takes place on the Sunday immediately following the British Legion's Annuual Commemoration Parade.

I'm pleased to report that I was able to make the AJEX Service & Parade thanks to support and transport kindly provided by the family.

A couple of snaps show the march back from the cenotaph and then the obligatory family line up at the Horseguards memorial.

Note my youngest granddaughter wearing her paternal great-grandfathers medals from ww1.

Greeting Gents (and any Ladies lurking about)

I was fortunate enough to attend the Cenotaph this year with the QARANC Association
At the grand age of 48 I suffered a heart attack at the end of July - so it was time to shuffle the bucket list, and the Cenotaph was one thing I have always watched as a child
so i was chuffed to little mintballs to be allowed to march there this year

This is me, upper right of group (glasses and brown gloves on)

Pleased to report that thanks to my family's help I was able to attend, once again, this year's AJEX Annual Remembrance Service & Parade.

Security very much in evidence, following the recent dreadful carnage in Paris, and it was heartening to see that despite this the French version of AJEX had sent a small contingent to join the Parade.

One photo attached, more to follow as they become available.

Glad to see the AJEX parade went ahead as planned, Ron. I had been wondering if it had gone ahead.

Regards to you and your family.
