I've got two different books on this Division. I've not mentioned the author of the larger book that I have. I've taken some photos of the pages that I think may help you out. I did take some photos over the weekend and for some strange reason it does not show any page numbers! I need to get the photos of the pages from my phone to my laptop. I can then email them to yourself. I've yet to answer some of your earlier questions. Leave it with me. Regards, Stu.
Lorenzo, it only shows parts of the war diary as an example has I've shown in my post 31. It runs from Oct 16,1944, to Jan- Mar 2, 1945. I'm guessing this book is has good has you are going to get when it comes to the War diaries if you decide to obtain them? That really is up to you if you decide to obtain them? I'm not sure if 10 RB liberated Piantravigne? Only time will tell of course. I need to correct my post 40 after looking through a few maps. I was correct in thinking that you need the map to the East of Florence (VALLOMBROSA) of which I will email a copy today along with a link for some use full maps. I'm sure they will be of use once you find what you are looking for. Here is the book that (I'm struggling to copy the pages of ) at the moment. It has around 17-20 pages that covers the all of June. I'm not willing to show them on this forum until I sort out my new phone, and laptop that is coming soon. You would not believe how many pages have turned out blurred when transferred from my phone to my laptop. Pain full and frustrating. Regards, Stu.
Thank you for all the help Stuart, you are extremely kind. No problem with the photos, take your time. BTW, i need the references for JULY, not june I have never seen it before (the 334 book), and I have been collecting german documents for a few years.. Also, thank you for the map references. I have bought the book about the 61 IB, so now I only have to wait..! And yes, I would also like to obtain the War Diaries of all the Rifle Brigade that were part of the 61 IB... Regards, Lorenzo
Dipstick getting the months wrong. What a idiot on my part. Here is the first book that I mentioned in a earlier post. By the way, this Division has another book that I've not bought. Will edit this post with the title. Get your wallet out! Shipping is not cheap these days, even more so if you reside in the United Kingdom.
Okay, well it has far more detail on the time period you are interested in that any other 334. ID book.
I don't know how much you are willing to invest, but the war diaries of the relevant German Korps and divisions can probably be copied in Freiburg for less than EUR100-150 by an independent researcher. All the best Andreas
Hi Gary, I don't have that booklet. Knowing yourself, you will probably have the book in your collection that I showed in my post 43? How many pages does this booklet have, and how much was it? Plus, could you please give a link to the book seller if you don't mind? I'm sure you have a few secret book sellers that you use. Trade secrets etc. Andreas, I'm not aware of the Freiburg! What is that? Any chance you could please provide a link if you don't mind? It would be most appreciated. Many thanks, Stuart.
It's the Bundesarchiv. I checked their online service but I'm afraid these units and formations have not been digitised yet. https://invenio.bundesarchiv.de/invenio/ Unfortunately seems to be down right now. All the best Andreas
Thank you for your time. I'm sure they will digitised them all in time. Lets hope that do not try to sell them in the future? Regards, Stu.
Well yes, but I doubt they would go down that road. I have the contact for a researcher who takes pictures at a reasonable cost. All the best Andreas
Aren't the holdings of the Bundesarchiv the originals of the microfilmed NARA rolls? Looking at the Bundesarchiv catalogue for 334 ID it seems to match NARA. Most German divisional war diaries end at the end of 1943 (as they do for 334 ID) or are completely absent (for example most Luftwaffe units). You can download a lot of the digitized files for free from various US sources as long as you're prepared to fight with FTP servers and client software. Sturmpanzer.com - Sturmpanzer and WW2 German Army Research NARA Index (sturmpanzer.com) You also need to know what roll the unit you're interested in - you can get that from consulting the NARA index guides linked on the second link above. There are also people on E-Bay selling war diaries on CD - however, these are just copies of the free NARA rolls.
I don't have any secrets, just German E-Bay and ZVAB (German equivalent of Abe). I don't use booksellers directly so don't have any links. This is one of a set of booklets to 334 Division - there is one more I don't have dealing specifically with the fighting at Baragazza.
Got a feeling that all of them booklets are in Josef Fossinger's book that I've posted. The last one looks like it. Edit. All of them are. Regards, Stu.
Hi Gary What I was thinking could be useful in this case are these documents. I always understood that Freiburg may have some stuff that isn't in NARA, but who knows. All the best Andreas
Hi Andreas, Ah, yes I see what you mean. They certainly do have stuff they have sourced or have had donated. What is difficult is to know what is included in the NARA microfilms versus how it is catalogued in BA. For example, BA they have the KTB for Pi. Btl. 3 catalogued as RH 46/63 but I know this is included in the NARA microfilm for 3. Panzergrenadier Division. I have been given a contact for a researcher at BA who has copied some officer files but I'd also be interested in your contact. Regards, Gary.
