Looking for any info regarding the above unit in Italy around 1943
    My Great Uncle was:
    4209354 Spr S Watson of D section 102 Y D.C.C/RE CMF

He had a major injury somewhere in Italy , loosing half his skull and one eye. He was repatriated and survived.
We can find no information whatsoever regarding his accident and subsequent recovery (allegedly at Stoke Mandeville). Sadly he has passed before elaborating on his story .

Hi , Thanks for that . I keep putting off applying for his records as £30 is quite a bit ATM. I have the catalogue numbers for Kew so will request those.
Just get lost chasing leads, Stoke Mandeville hold no records and keep pointing me to Kew and I cant find a lead at Kew for casualties.

Trev when you can do apply it is the only way to give you a good base to move forward

I don't know which catalogue numbers you are talking about but a few members can copy files at Kew for you and it's a lot cheaper. I presume you are needing war diaries.

Royal Engineer tracer cards are on the findmypast website. Not a substitute for the full service records & usually only give basic details & possibly only up to his injury, but may pinpoint the date. Not free to access from home but usually free at your local library in England.
