Hi, I attempted to research my ex husbands grandfather 18 years ago, who was in this reg, and have a photo of his grave etc but was wondering if you could give me any other details on his journey from the uk or anything else that would be useful.
He was never talked/ known about until I began my research and now my youngest child( who I named after his great grandfather) has such a interest that I would like to help him.
His name was William John baker bervoets , many thanks

Welcome, and good luck with your research.

As per the above advice, send off for his service records, if you read the application form you will identify the NOK, possibly your Ex unless a child of William is alive.

A fairly unusual name so presume this is him.

Interpretation of POW records is not something I am familiar with so perhaps others will be able to chip in. William is mentioned in a number of War Office documents, which I have outlined below. Quite a bit of the information is repeated amongst different documents, I have therefore just detailed the main points.

WO 361/241 Unreported deaths of allied personnel
    Name: Bervotes, William
    Rank: Pvt
    No: 4132790
Diagnosis: Tropical ulcer (Diarrhoea & diphtheria)
Date of death: 12 Oct 43
    Disposition of remains: Cremated

WO 361/2070 Parties Overland & Overseas ex Changi. Prisoners of war, Far East: parties transferred overseas and overland from Changi, Singapore.
Nominal roll of overland party "F", 27.4.43

WO 361/2201 F Force Working party - Thailand. Departed April 1943 / Returned Dec 1943
    Deceased 12.10.43

WO 361/1344 Far East: Thailand; Burial Register for No 2 Camp, Sonkurai
    Bk B / Row 3 / Gr 6

    WO 361/2234 Death Register F & H Forces
    Diphtheria / Diarrhoea
    Sonkrai

WO 361/1946 Malaya POW Camp Name list
    Card No. New: IV1957
    Card No. Old: i/1389

WO361/2234 Prisoners of war, Far East: Thailand-Burma Railway camps; 'F' and 'H' Forces; death register

WO 3614/2025 Prisoners of war Far East: Allied POWs transferred overland to other camps April 1943; F Force.

WO 361/2176 Prisoners of war, Far East: 18th Division headquarters and infantry; pilot roll, A-E

WO 361/1624/1 Borneo death record (Japanese Prisoner of War Information Bureau) and death lists for Mukden, Thailand and Malaya POW Camps. Orderable at item level - Borneo list

WO 392/23 POWs in Japan or Japanese Occupied Territory, A-D, 1945

You can see the source of the records by searching the National Archives site with the WO reference, for example:
Search results: WO 361/241 | The National Archives

Finally, perhaps a relation, there are records for a Paul Frederick George Bervoets, POW Dutch East Indies, Djawa camp
