    Hi Andy,

    Re: 262 Field Coy. R.E. - Lt. E.L. Ashton

I think I have a wartime photo of him. I will go a-hunting in my archives.

In later life, did he live in Blundellsands and go by the name 'Teddy'?

    Regards,

    David

    Hi Andy,

    Re: Officers of H.Q. 12 Corps Troops, R.E., B.L.A.

This photo includes Capt. EL Ashton. (My estimate is that is was taken in 1945.)

    Hi David,

That is indeed my father, known as Teddy and who lived in Blundellsands, where I lived as a boy. I think that is a photo my sister also has. We have a list of places that he went during the war but I am trying to fill in the gaps as I plan to retrace the route by bicycle sometime and visit the areas where he was. He never talked much about the war so we just have bits and pieces to go on. I thought of going on a road trip with him to retrace the route but it never quite happened and then he was too frail to make the journey so I thought I would make it post hoc instead in his memory.

    How did you know him?
Were you in the same unit?

    Andy

    Hi Andy,

My Great Uncle was a Major C.B. Stone (Bernard), who was O.C. 262 Fd. Coy. R.E. from December 1943 to December 1944; so they served together for a short period. I have a copy of a letter from Andy to Bernard dated 1991 in connection with a Company reunion. (Happy to copy to you. My Email address is given below.)

    Capt. C.B. Stone
    14 November 1941 (Joined as 2i/c, 262 Fd. Coy., R.E. from 56 Div. R.E.); 12 September 1942 (Posted to H.Q. 12 Corps Troops, R.E.).
    Major C.B. Stone rejoined 262 Fd. Coy., R.E. from C.E. 12 Corps as O.C. for Major K.E. Black (w.e.f. 28 December 1943).

    2/Lt. E.L. Ashton
    4 June 1942 (Joined 262 Fd. Coy., R.E.; 1 April 1943 (Posted to 265 Fd. Coy., R.E.).

Good luck with the bike trip!

    Regards,

    David
