    Hello Jon, possibly.

Screenshot below from American based subscription service Fold3. The National Archives file reference within (WO/102/36) leads here:

Territorial Efficiency Medal and Efficiency Medal: awards lists issued with Army Orders | The National Archives

It's a start. Other good folks who frequent the forum may come up with more regarding your grandad. Applying for his Army Service Records would be advisable, the first step starts here:

Get a copy of military records of service

Good luck with your searching, here's the screenshot as mentioned earlier.

    Kind regards, always,

    Hi Paul

2nd Battalion, the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Infantry (2DCLI) were part of 10 Infantry Brigade, part of 4 Infantry Division

The Battalion, 740 strong, flew from Mendura in Italy to Kalamaki in Greece on 13-Dec-44 on board 9 x Liberators

I have the 2DCLI War Diaries for the December 44 and January 45. This period is known in Greece as "The December Events (Dekemvriana)".

A very short but vicious 6 week long civil war between Greek/British/Indian forces and the communist led Greek People's Liberation Army (ELAS).

Hello everyone, my great grandad served with the cornwalls we think the 2nd. We are trying to research as much as we can. We have his marriage cert that says his service number was 5435956 private 2nd Duke of cornwalls light infantry. Born in 1914 Robert Henry Phillip Hayes. We have heard of him being at Dunkirk but not much else. Any help on where we could start would be massively appreciated.

Best of luck to you! I don't have any other resources I'm afraid, but I can say that if you confirm that he served with the DCLI, the museum in Bodmin is worth a visit. I visited it in 2018 and bought the DCLI history 1939-45 when I was there, and I think it is a very good book. It covers all the battalions but that includes several chapters on the 2nd.
