2nd Battalion York and Lancs - before Burma

Discussion in 'British Army Units - Others' started by Glenn D Barker, Dec 29, 2022.

  1. Yes, there were Aussies, Indians, Free French, Arabs, and Palmach all attacking the Vichy from different points, with another British force attacking from Iraq in the East. My dad was a driver with the 2nd Y&L , but said he often found himself fighting alongside Anzac troops. He told me a story of driving a lorry in a convoy towards Damascus the day before it was handed over on the 21st June. The British 16th Infantry Brigade were shipped out as re-inforcements from Egypt to Syria on the 18th. Perhaps he was seconded to drive in this convoy.
