    Hi all,

I've been researching my Grandad's wartime past and a lot of the information in here has really helped me out. Just wanted to contribute something back, here's a pic of my Grandad in his universal carrier, from 46 Recce. I think it must be somewhere in Austria late in the war, I know they were there in 1945. There's no info on the back of the pic to help, but the houses look quite Germanic and the civil flag looks possibly Austrian too.

I can see they're wearing the black Tank regiment berets in the pic. One specific query is; the carrier would definitely have been painted olive green at this time wouldn't it?

    All the best.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the welcome. My Grandad is the driver on the left, his name's Albert Ward. The chap in the commander's seat is possibly his mate, Andrew Richie. They were in A squadron, 46th Recce.

    Cheers,
    Brendon

you are correct as the Austrian flag is flying and the store behind the boy is signed in the German langauge- the boy is also wearing the liederhosen - this was probably taken near Graz in the SE of the country and was 46th territory as you can see from the Oak Tree insignia on the right mudguard
    Cheers
