    Hello,

I've been doing some research into my Grampy's war time years and have sent off for his service record. In the meantime I have a few documents to go on but haven't been able to find out much regarding the 4th Training Brigade, RASC.

I know he was promoted to Corporal with the RASC when he joined in 1944 after being wounded while serving with the 6th Lincolnshires in the BNAF.

The only info I have regarding his time with the RASC is from his BEM recommendation which reads as follows:

T/4808772 Cpl. Marshall W.G. was a newly promoted N.C.O. on the Company office staff at the commencement of the campaign on 6th June 44. By his untiring and unsparing efforts during the most difficult and busy period of the Company remobilization, he was substantially instrumental in the very efficient operation of the Company administration. While the Company was operating from CAEN, SOIGNIES, and GENVAL areas, Cpl. Marshall by working exceptionally long hours, successfully discharged abnormal responsibilities and, by his discipline and sense of duty, has set an example of the highest order to the whole unit.

I'm guessing this is to do with the D-Day landings. Also there is a family story about him being dropped into the Rhine!?

Any further information would be appreciated!

    Welcome IzyMS

Others with more knowledge on this than me will probably be along soon. But I suspect that his BEM citation doesn't relate to the Training Brigade as I'd be surprised if they were involved in D-Day or it's immediate aftermath (and very surprised if a training brigade was based at Caen!). So I suspect that he will have been posted to the training brigade when he first joined the RASC and then posted to another unit. Which one, only his service records will tell!

(As an aside, I wonder if that should 4th Training Battalion?)

    Cheers

    Ian
