I am re-reading a book titled 'Born at the Wrong Time: The Biography of Cyril James by Dave Foxton. It recounts the events of October 44 onwards throughout the campaign from the perspective of a sergeant in C Coy 4/5 RSF. An incident is recorded when the company comes across a group of Hitler Youth manning a British 25 pounder field gun. Around the gun are the dead gun detachment. The HJ are in their 'brown' uniforms with swastika armbands; the account states and they had turned the gun around to fire at the advancing British. They fire a few shells. The gun is engaged with small arms by the RSF and the youth surrender. It occurs outside Bocholt so I am guessing around March 45 after Rhine Crossing? I am wondering if any confirmation can be found that this happened either from WDs or other sources? The incident has always intrigued me...
