In January 1943, the 6th Battalion left by 3 trains from Ascot & Sunningdale in Berkshire for Clydebank. They were to leave the UK and sail for North Africa on the HMT Sobieski. I found a nominal roll of all Officers and men who left the UK and have posted the pages below:-

Thanks Elsie. I've decided to start researching all Battalions of the Lincolns in WW2, as this is the Regiment my Father was called up to in 1940. As nominal rolls are not that common, it's great to be able to make this information available.

Looking through the service numbers for the 6th Lincolns, I found a man who had a number 4 higher than my Dad. By chance, luck, whatever you call it, Dad stayed in the 7th Battalion, which converted to RA/LAA in 1941 and a number of guys went to other Lincoln Battalions. Luckily Dad and his RA Regt stayed in the UK and went to NWE in June 44. Dad was to meet and marry Mum on the way.

    Cheers - Rob

    Barbara.

Did he survive the war? I ask because 6 LINCOLNS had some brutal experiences in Italy - Salerno, the crossing of the Volturno, Monte Faito near Cassino, the Gothic Line near Rimini, the dreaded Gemmano assaults. They suffered.

Are you aware that the 6th Battalion produced a book and that it is still in print?

    Regards

    Frank

Do you happen to have their War Diaries for Tunisia?

HI Frank, yes he did survive the war, I know very little of him as we came to Australia when I was 6 and I never met him. I know he served in both Africa and Italy, but very little else. I will try and get a copy of the book. Thankyou so much, Barb
