Hi I wonder if any body can help me please. My wife's grandfather was a soldier in this regiment. As far as I've the information I've got he spent his time in Italy. The information I require is what would his normal duties be within the regiment, also can any one tell me the timeline of the regiment from Sicily to the surrender of German forces.

Thanks and appricated for any information.

    Dominic.

For a detailed look at the services of 80th Medium Regiment, RA you need to obtain a copy of The Scottish Horse 1939-1945. The Regiment served in Sicily and italy including Syracuse, Catania, Messina, Anzio, Rome, the Gothic Line and the Argenta gap. It ended the war in northern Italy.

not having a copy of the "Scottish Horse" would you be kind enough to scan the relevant entries for this unit and it's division which intriquingly does not show in the OoB of those divisions which served both in Sicily and Anzio with the exception of 5th (Globetrotters) Division which does not list supporting units...all I can find is that the 80th meds sailed for the MEF in April of 1943 - long after El Alamein....as 5th Div were in that region before moving to Tunisia ready for the Sicilian invasion of July 10th
    cheers

Hi thanks for your replies. On further digging I found his rank was Gunner and unit was 111 Batt. Does this help.
