    Conflict in the date of death. Circumstances are given within file WO 167/128 I Corps Commander Corps Medium Artillery (CCMA) dated 15th May 1940:

    Meanwhile, I Corps Artillery had opened up with all guns on its various tasks, and the Regt. was in full action. During the early evening while in action and again coming out of action snipers were very active, using silenced rifles from the cover behind troop positions. This was particulary bad at 'E' Troop, where B.S.M. McMahon was shot in the stomach and died later, while another man was slightly wounded.
