enough is enough , I think we should now leave him alone on second thoughts How to Wipe Your Hard Drive: a Geek Squad 2 Minute Miracle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewisIDG-K-E
This really is dragging along - I think I know how a opiate user feels when they've not had a fix ! Andrea spoke to the IT Company today and they have just 20 minutes to go before they have pulled all the data that was left off my hard drive and then its a case of putting it all back on my hard drive. Apparently it's the biggest recovery job they have ever done with over 1 Million images saved Anyway the good news is I should get my baby back tomorrow - Just in time for my five days off
Good news Andy. Out of interest would you mind keeping us informed of roughly what precentage of data was recovered (and what lost) and how much the recovery cost?
Will do, I think the initial cost was expected to be around £80 - I suspect this may have gone up a bit. Not sure I'll know how much was lost for ever by transferring that one image on to the HD to see if it still worked
Not that I need to worry but I did wonder if they have a legal obligation to check each image just in case
Silly thing...that is why they ask you TWICE. I'll be quite honest with you, Drew, when this is all over for you, I will be laughing quite heartily at your indescrection. But not for too long...maybe.
OK Hard Drive now at home with a LOT of images all in one folder called 'jpg'. They are all random though and don't appear to be in any order - any ideas on how I can get them into some sort of order?
How much? Back them up. Back them up again. Right click in folder, >Sort by 'date taken or modified - should be a start if the data's still intact. Maybe fine-tuning via more precise exif data if still there. Do suspect Picasa or similar may be your friend here. if only in speed terms over windows standard.
I've tried that and it seems to be sorting them in order by the first six digits but the last four digits seem to be random. I know from when the images were taken thos numbers were in numerical order so I assume that would apply to date taken. I'm assuming selecting 'date taken' works on the time taken as well? Or is it just the date which would explain the last four digits being random rather than in order?
The definitions are confusing, and not 100% reliable. Try 'em to see which makes most sense. Created usually refers to that specific file system.
Change folder view to 'details' if it isn't already - that way, whatever criteria you picked can be sorted by the headers at the top of the list. That way you can ignore the image titles... to an extent.
