Belgium Croix de Guerre 1940 with Palm

During the advance following the Germans in January 1945 C/Sgt. Bettle took part with his Bn in successful attack on the village of WAVREILLE. At this time he was only a junior serjeant. In the battle, both his platoon commander and platoon serjeant were wounded and he had to take over command of the platoon. He carried this out extremely efficiently and has since been promoted to his present rank as a resul of his gallantry and efficiency in the field
