    Citation at WO 373/25/557

Immediate MC for Lt, Temp Capt Geoffrey Arthur Cullington RA

Initial recommendation by Lt Col JH Colhoun RA, CO 58 (Sussex) Field Regiment RA

Near Enfidaville on 29 Apr 43, this officer was acting as FOO in support of 169 Inf Bde in the attack on Feature 130. He moved onto this position with a signaller carrying a No 11 R/T set. Although wounded and being constantly shelled, he maintained communications and sent back valuable information. He frequently changed his OP to better his observation and was in a position to bring down observed fire on the enemy as he counterattacked. Subsequently he moved away from what local protection he had in order to register DF tasks. In doing so he was constantly harried by the fire of enemy automatics and mortars. Finally, towards evening he reluctantly asked to be relieved on account of weakness due to loss of blood. In successfully accomplishing his task, completely regardless of his own safety, he displayed courage, initiative and determination of a very high standard.

58 (Sussex) Fd Regt RA at the time was part of 5 Army Group RA and comprised 186, 229 and 230 Batteries.

T/Capt Cecil Edward Drake (listed below Cullington in the Supplement to the London Gazette referred to above) was awarded an MC in the same action for his endeavours, also as a FOO.

Feature (or Point) 130 was known locally as Djebel Terhouna. A context to events is available at:
