Bentley Priory open day 22/5/10 photos

    Dear All
    a few photos from the open day (apologies not David Bailey quality)

    The Spitfire came in over the trees and sure made folks jump.
    The stained glass window in the house is fantastic.

    funny you should say that one of the chaps there cranked up an old air raid siren as she came in.
    I must admit it was a pretty close display so swapped taking photos for just watching and listening.

    it was all locked up
    but does look very interesting

    perhaps once they sort out what they are doing with the site it might be part of a tour

    Doesn't mention Anti Aircraft Command that was based there... hmm General Pile would be a bit miffed as he worked very closely with Dowding at the Priory !

    Owen by the looks of things neither did the Luftwaffe .
    When you see it in the flesh it is (as you know a huge house) perched circa 500 feet above sea level with fantastic views over the north/west part of London.I am suprised it wasnt more of a target bearing in mind some of the random civilian casualties/buildings hit sited locally to the big house.

    I have pasted a few links that might be of interest.
    I would add that seeing it had such a major part in World War 2 on the whole it is slightly understated in the wider media.
