I was looking for a War Diary for a forum member and whilst looking for it I found a related file-Like a D*** I didn't make a note of file ref number. Two days later and with the help of a member we can't find the file.

    So the clues:

It was either a D-Day report on the RE unit's performance or D-Day + a few days.

It may have used the 6th June or Overlord rather than D-Day and the RE unit is 240 Field Company RE.

A dollop of rep and a brew and cake waiting at Kew for whoever can find it.

    Cheers
    Andy

Could the D reference been a DEFE series file? Although these are Ministry of Defence and are generally post-war files.

Not sure mate, I know its not a lot to go on and I think it will probably one of the many files you just stumble on by chance and never see again.

    Could it be this one?

DEFE 2/493, Royal Engineers reports. Includes 10 photographs depicting: Operation Overlord: Royal Engineering Works reconstructing pile bridges at "Beeringen" [Beringen] and "Stockroye" [Stockrooie] in Belgium. Dated 1944-1945. 1944-1945

Na, although that looks interesting too

It said something like 'Royal Engineers performance report on 6 June or Overlord or D-Day'

It may have even mentioned Sword Bearch in the title.

Don't think it had Sword in the title in TNA catalogue. Doing a search on keyword "sword" for years 1944-46 brings up only 4 War Office files and 10 Admiralty files.

Got me stumped on this one!

However, I did find this which looks rather interesting :)
ADM 223/214, Appendix 1 (Part 5): History of 30 Commando (later called 30 Assault Unit and 30 Advanced Unit also known as Special Engineering Unit): includes part played by Commander Ian Fleming, Operation Torch (North Africa), Dieppe Raid, Operation Bantam (Calabria), Operation Baytown (Calabria), Operation Avalanche (Salerno), Operation Overlord (Normandy Landings), Operation Neptune (Normandy), Eclipse operations (special duties in Germany after organised resistance had ceased), discovery of gold and bearer bonds, Operation Zipper (landings at Penang), Operation Tiderace (occupation of Penang and Singapore) 1947 Dec 9-1948 Apr 21; 1970 Sept 5

240 Field Company was a Beach Sub Area unit on Juno. I have not even looked at those units yet. Sorry.

    Mike.

30 Commando is another unit landing on Juno. To try and seize secrets from the Douvre (?) radar station.
