So he was in Ransville when he was put in hospital, that is wonderful to see the diary. I have his records from the archives, they took only a month to recieve them after I requested them, but that was a year ago, in December. they must be much busier now. They don't have in the records where he was, just NWE. His time in the Canadian BlackWatch was from 41 to 45, but he only went overseas in april of 44. He was training until then, I guess all the training in the world didn't prepare him for what happened over there. The most detailed report about that day is from the medic who found him. I want to thank you all for your patience with me. I have looked at this site so many times and read and read, I wish I had of asked for help sooner, as I have probably read for a thousand hours trying to find out where he was that day. Thanks so so much. The diary makes me feel so much closer to it, just as getting his file from the archives. It makes what happened real. not just a story. The pieces of paper were there with them at the time it was happening. Amazing to me that they survived, the paper I mean. Eileen Howard

I am so grateful for help, what happened to the men on the casualty list that have nothing beside there name. Did they die. I hope not.and now the question of where did he go until he returns to Canada in 45. I have found one of the men on the casualty list somewhere before, Capt. J.M. Turner. I think I have found photo's of my dad with his battalion, but him being so young it is hard to be certain, but now I will know for sure that I have the right time and place and battalion..

I have looked at his file again, and have found a little more info, he was taken to 175th fld Amb. then guys hospital, 20th july, then to 1 special hospital aug 4,1944, then Basingstoke Neuro hospital from Aug 10 until aug. 29th, then he is discharged and posted to 3 infantry depot? then he has these letters in nov 44 T.O.S. canloan scheme SOS to 3 CITR TOS from 1 CGRU this is on 25th and 26th of Nov. then it says appt. (PL COM'D) B4 3 INY BN on dec. 1st 1944. and it goes back and forth with many letters like these until july of 45 where he arrives in montreal and is SOS canadian army. put on reserve statis. I have no idea how you fellas ever knew what those papers meant or said. After July 13th 1944 he is always listed as UK not NWE.So I am assuming, and we all know what assuming does for one, that he did not go back to fighting again, but maybe you fellas could fill me in a little, if any of what I have written makes sense to you. there is also a line that says he is posted to Rfls, R.H.C. jan. of 45. so I am lost as to what his role was after he got out of hospital until he repats at1CDN repat depot on july 30th 1945. was he still doing a soldiers work or just waiting to get back to canada. What would C.I.T.R. stand for. that is on each line of his papers from Nov 44 until the end of may45. Also on the order to send him to 1 Special hospital, (canadian) but it's in the UK the order says, "these orders to send E.B. Howard to 1Spec. hospital are orders from Canadian BlackWatch. I am thinking his father was interferring with his care from back here, My father only tollerated his father the Colonel during my lifetime, because he adored his mother. The card or form they use to write down the injury etc, on admission to the hospital on July 13th, 44. The first line written on it says, good family background, Father is colonel in Canadian Army. I know my dad would have hated that. He was all about proving he didn't need anyone or anything. his whole life with us at least.
