    Hi All,

Does anyone know if there are documents or paperwork for Casualty Clearing Stations in India held at the National Archives? I am looking especially for some information regarding CCS 19 based at Imphal in 1943.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Bamboo.

You have probably got this information by now. There are the War Diaries for Casualty Clearing Stations at TNA. I have some information on 19CCS in April May 1945

I'd be interested in information on what type of detail these WDs provide. Typical one paragraph of activities each day, or is there more information on casualties passing through?

    Elizabeth,

Thank you very much for getting back, you are quite right, I have tracked down the information I was after. The period I was after was slightly before mid-1945, I was researching the Chindits and their time at CCS 19.

Would you be interested in what I have for this period at all?

    Steve.

    Hi Kevin,

I was after the staff names for the period to add to my Roll of personnel involved with the 1943 Chindits. The diary pages I have a fairly scant for detail, with staff comings and goings, but no real detail about casualties. Here is a typical page.

    Hi Steve,

I would be very interested in what you have.

In mid 1944 my mother was posted to 16 CCS ( Panitola I think) and there she looked after Chinditis. Later she was transferred to 19 CCS - and for brief periods to 14 CCS as the latter two units leap-frogged into central Burma and down to Rangoon. If any one has War Diaries for 16 CCS or 14 CCS I would be most interested.

My diaries for 19 CCS cover the period April to July 1945 . They are handwritten and sometimes hard to read. Only numbers of patients and numbers evacuated are given, plus brief notes on staff movements and visitors.

    Hi Elizabeth,

I have had a quick look at my coverage of the diary, it is mainly the medical personnel lists from 1942-43 and covers 17 pages.

I will pm you and we can sort out the best way to send these over to you.

    Steve.

Is anyone aware of Casualty Clearing Station Lists? I am particularly interested in 34 Casualty Clearing Station NWE (I think Germany) and No.8 CCS in North Africa.

I came across the very informative list of General Hospitals posted by a member and wondered whether anyone had taken the above task on?

    Hi Barb20,

Not 100% sure, but have you looked on the National Archives website for Medical services, file series WO177. It has a reference to both CCS 8 and 34 numerically, but whether these are the correct locations you require I'm not sure.
