CRASC vs RASC ?

Discussion in 'RASC' started by darrencthomson, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. Hi there,

Can anybody tell me anything about the Commando Royal Army Service Corp. and how this differs from the RASC ?

My grandfather seems to have served in both (522 COY, RASC in Feb-May 1943 and then later from Oct 1944) and CRASC from May 1943 until July 1944 (a month after the D-day landings).

    Thanks

    Darren

    It's not Commando it's Commander.
CRASC is the chap in charge of the RASC in a Division.

  3. Thanks, Owen.

So, where i see "CRASC" and "RASC" in a service record they, essentially, mean the same thing ? They are not referring to different units ?

    They are both RASC units.
522 Coy did what they did.
The CRASC was the HQ unit for the RASC units in the Division.
    Or something like that.
Other will explain it better than me.

read the Trux info on a Divisional HQ & see where the RASC fit in, duties etc
lots of drivers needed at Div HQ too

read this bit & then scroll down

Going by the dates May 1943 to July 1944 I'm guessing CRASC in this case refers to Commander RASC for a Beach Sub Area (101, 102 and 104 Beach Sub Areas were for SWORD, JUNO and GOLD assault areas, respectively)
