Seventy-five years ago today, Germany attacked Belgium and The Netherlands, signalling the end of the Phoney War and the commencement of the phase which was to end with the evacuation of most of the BEF and the capitulation of France. 10th May 1940 was a Friday, but in weather pretty much like this afternoon, British troops were moving up to the Dyle Line (stopping of course for a beer on the way)
Don't mentioning stopping for a beer , it'll start the 'British Army stopped for tea' thing off again.
I've been to Eben Emael today, where Fall Gelb was first put into effect. Sadly everything was shut of course..On the "modern" Norton as daughter #2 doesn't enjoy BEF girder-rigids. The scars of 1940 are still clearly visible.
I should have been in Moerdijk tomorrow with work and was planning on a little extra-curricular activity looking at the FJR dropzone around the bridges leading to Dordrecht. Another time maybe...
