The citty of Almelo (netherlands) was liberated by the 4th Canadian armored division under the command of major general Vokes. y'm searching for my biological father who probably does not know of my existance. His name is cliff Griffith or something that looks like that. He had a relation with my mother in the period April-July 1945 in Almelo. Jan.
Hi Jan, there are a few Canadian members here, but you might find more help on the website WW2f or finding a Canadian WW2 website. Here's what I found just running his name through the free website Familysearch.org. I don't think Canadian records for births, marriages and deaths are available on line, I could be wrong. If they are available I would check Find My Past or Ancestry. Good luck. FamilySearch.org
Have you a document with the name you think reads Cliff Griffith. The first stage would be to have the correct name. If you could let us see the written name perhaps we could help you read it. Veronica
If you can find his correct name perhaps send a request to - Requests for Military Service Files - Library and Archives Canada Open files (online) are for those from WW1 and who died in WW2, other files need to be 'requested', so accurate information (if possible) is preferable TD
