I love the healthy competition on this forum to be the first to find the answers .......and in the end, neither of us could!!
.......and in the end, neither of us could!! With the help of Bart the creator of the new Shan Hackett site, I've also sent Sasobowski's great grandson and email. Thanks Bart.
... and all I asked in return was a few beers. ;-) P.S. Make sure you use his correct name (Sosabowski)... I know it's a difficult one, but they're proud of it (with good reason).

his correct name (Sosabowski)... I know it's a difficult one, but they're proud of it (with good reason). I wonder if he was any relation to my English teacher at school. She was Mrs Sosabowska! A being the female derivative of it and her son was Sosabowski.
During a visit to a local museum ,I came across a display of medals that were awarded to Private Ignacy Girzda 1st Polish Parachute Brigade. I've been through the books Poles Apart and Freely I Served, but couldn't find him mentioned anywhere. This however could be just a simple case of me missing him whilst flicking through. So I put it out to those that are more acquainted with the Battle of Arnhem to come up with some information for me.The museum received them with very little information other than what you see in the picture I've attached below. So they are very interested in finding out more information about the fellow Apologies, the picture isn't the greatest flash problems on the day. I do intend going back and getting a better one done. Thanks. Hello there I have just seen your post regarding Ignacy Girzda. He was my father and he was in the battle of arnhem. If there is something else I could help with don't hesitate to mail me My mail is jgirzda (at) eject.co.za I also have a few of his medals. Best regards John Girzda
What a great result Dave, look forward to hearing more about the man and how his medals came to be in Essex. Mike
Think how pleased you'd be if you discovered your dads old war medals. Let us know if its the same guy and the full story. Pete

Having spoken to Mr Girzda's son it became apparent that he did not know very much about his father at all and he has know idea how his fathers medals ended up in a small museum in Essex. One little bit of information I can now had is that I have uncovered that Mr Girzda was a Sapper and was aboard Chalk No.5. Not much, but it adds a little more to the story.
