Inge Steensland died today, 87 years of age. Steensland was just 17 when he escaped nazi occupied Norway by crossing the North Sea in a small boat. He was first enrolled in the Norwegian Independent Company and later the Norwegian Navy. He was trained by the SOE and sent to Norway. A group led by him in February 1945 hijacked and brought to neutral Sweden eleven tugs and a rescue vessel, right under the noses of the Germans. This daring action for a long period prevented any German use of the tricky waters outside Fredikstad. Steensland was decorated with the Norwegian War Cross with Sword.
