Help please in identifying meaning of insignia on soldiers cuff. Apologies for quality of photos. Thank you.
No date on the photo but know he was in both the Royal Berkshire and then Wiltshire so where these came from is a mystery. Thank you for looking. ,
Immediate thought that is was an R P (Regimental Police) armband that had slipped down . Showing he was part of the Provost Section
Defo with redtop Regimental Police guarding POWs at BN HQ seen a photo with that caption many moon ago different regiment to the one pictured though
Had a look at his military records (not that I can decipher most of it) and cannot see anywhere mention of Regimental Police, but perhaps it would not have necessarily been recorded?
Unlikely to be on his service record, RP was just employment in a specialist section of Battalion no more liable to be noted than a rifleman or Signaller ,Might show somewhere if he attended an outside course but usually the only qualification needed to be a member of the Provost section was to be a member of the boxing Team.
Thank you all for input. The band worn by the men above looks very similar. Found his Service and Pay Book, once again difficult to read but there is mention of an LMG Course. Not sure what that is?
LMG ,Light Machine Gun , usually a Bren Gun for infantry. If mention is in pay book it would probably mean he had passed the Course and qualified for extra pay.
