Hi Derrick, there are quite a few more pictures which I will try to get round to uploading, but of those that have any description on reverse, in the main they seem to be around Venice and Austria. There are quite a few with mountain scenes which I would guess are further south, regimental football game, and some of what look like Rome? In answer to Oldman's question, I did know and forgot by the time I uploaded photos!! Im off to the Somme for 4 days, as soon as Im back will contact my mate and add details, sorry:confused:

    Hi,
    Thanks

Just amazing shots i've browsed through the second lot, my goodness they are special, the shot of the bunch for me is image 81, i wish i could step in that scene, that guys expression saws it all about the war in Italy, there is some humor with the two soldiers on the right. lets us know any more info on them, did you get the name of the photographer ?

    cheers

of course there was lots of humour in the Italian campaign - it was the only way in which we could preserve our sanity....we had loads of laughs-

on those photos - the one with the two Sergeants was taken in St Marks Square in Venice in the June '45 approx . as in the spring '46 it was in great danger of sinking owing to an exceptionally high tide in the lagoon and was saved by the RE's under the direction of Lt.Col. Maurice Menage M.B.E. who was CRE - Venice at the time. and was based on the Colonels knowledge of the saving of Salisbury Cathedral in the early 30's

and I would say the Mountain scenes were of Lower Austria- probably towards Graz area rather than South to the Italian Appenines - but good photo's- can't make up my mind whether they were RASC or REME

    Cheers

Thanks Derrick, the photos were all taken by my mates dad Sgt Redford(except the ones that he is in) he's the one sitting on bench holding what looks like a baseball bat, looks like they had been doing a spot of ice skating!! Thanks for the info Tom, I shall post he's details next week and any other info that comes to light. Glad your all enjoying them, regards Sean

Thanks SP - these are cracking.
Unusual to see so many photos taken by an allied soldier, and there's something pleasingly unusual about these - really not often you see such a decent set from what's presumably a workshop company or similar.

    Tom,

That's good to hear :), i always look for the humor..but when i find it, i'm kind of surprised to see it. i hope that makes sense . Great insight to the Venice pics.

    Sean,

Thanks for the info, he has a uncanny knack for capturing the right moment, take the image in the workshop with the light streaming through, that is great picture. top guy.

    cheers

    Derrick
