A very understandable feeling. Post war Germany had the luxury of using its financial aid solely for rebuilding its infrastructure with the most modern technology, poised to leap into future markets. American's of a certain generation had very much similar thoughts of Japan and her industry in the 1980's.
Reading the Pathe online associated notes, they often seem to have lost a lot of paperwork... or else they acquired the print(s) from a variety of sources and just didn't know much about it.
