On this date in 1944, U.S. forces defeated the last organized Japanese resistance on Guam, paving the way for U.S. Bomber Groups to advance. Japanese holdouts remained a threat long after the Bomb Groups moved to Guam. At night, when their last work detail was done and the airmen showed movies borrowed from the Seabees, they always left a seat available for any Japanese sniper who might wish to join them!
