Yes they did keep a ship's log. Unfortunately very few seem to have survived. There is only a handful of them at the National Archives, plus some COs might have kept them in their personal archives, which might later have been donated to museums by their descendants, so that whichever logs might have survived are likely to be peppered all over the country if not the planet...
