Hi, I have just purchased my deceased fathers military records and am trying to find out locations where he was posted during and just after the 2nd world war, and what sort of thing he was doing. So far my online searches haven't been able to find the info. Though I can see he remained in the UK in Anti-Aircraft Regiments. I have been able to determine that he joined up in the Territorial Army on 1/4/1943 at Richmond, N Yorks then was posted to the Royal Artillery he took a Driver/Mechanic course at 229 AA Driver Training Regt, Blackpool becoming a Driver in Charge of Light Anti Aircraft. Then another Driver Mechanic D Class 2 course (What does class 2 mean here?) at No 1 Tech Training Group Acton. Following that I just have units dates & UK. The locations I am trying to find are: 12/11/1943 - 31/5/1944 - 12 HAA Regt RA (12th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment Royal Artillery) 31/5/1944 - 23/8/1944 - 211 RA Training Regiment HAA Mobile 23/8/1944 - 25/6/1947 - 412th Battery, 124 HAA Regiment Royal Artillery Any information where these regiments were an what they would have been doing, or links to where I can research further would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, There are War Diaries held at the National Archives, Kew, for two of the units that you are interested in. If you cannot get there yourself and you want to get copies of the War Diaries you could contact PsyWar.Org (Lee) or Drew5233 (Andy) on the forum who both offer a copying service. Below are the reference numbers. I could not see anything listed for 211 HAA Regiment. Regards Danny WO 166/11574, War Office: Home Forces: War Diaries, Second World War. Royal Artillery.
