As part of our school's war memorial project we are eesearching Michael Lewin Anderson of the Royal Artillery who died on 23rd April 1945 in Japan. Any further info would be greatly appreciated. http://kidblog.org/whsblog/mrleach273145/whs-roll-of-honour-captain-m-l-anderson/ Casualty
Hi Chris, As a POW in Japanese hands Captain Anderson will probably have what is known as a Japanese index card which will record his time as a prisoner of war. These are held at the National Archives in the file series WO345. The cards are stored alphabetically in boxes and with his surname his card should be found in box WO345/1. His details are recorded on the Cofepow database, see link, which usually means that an index card exists for him. Any information about his death will be on the reverse of the card and will be written in Kranji Japanese characters. http://www.cofepowdb.org.uk/cdb2/Controller.jsp?action=showfepow&id=591 With any luck, other forum members may well have more detailed information for you, possibly related to his journey to the Japanese mainland. I hope this helps in some way and I wish you luck with your ongoing project. Steve
Chris, I actually visited this grave and laid a cross of remembrance in 2012. There is a lot of connection with Dad, they were in Kinkaseki together. . Mike
Plenty on the internet, Chris, but perhaps not for those of squeamish disposition. It was called a "Hell Camp" for good reason. Adult review prior to inclusion in the blog?

Hi Chris, Up at the Archives today, had a few Jap index boxes out so I grabbed Captain Anderson for you. If you would like the higher resolution images sent over then just pm me. His card reverse is quite extensive for these cards, so a Japanese translator will be required. Best wishes Steve
