anybody know how it was decided that most military graveyards would be a white stone cross.

ive googled and found one in the uk thats a tomb stone but still white.

The US graves at Normandy are mainly white marble crosses but Jewish graves have a star of david in the centre. British war graves use a regular tablet shaped tombstone, like these:

    Raf,
Its not supposed to look nice. Its heartbreaking. You drive accross Belgium and every 400 yred there is a little cemetery full of little white crosses. You try to feel proud because the alternative is that you stop the bike get off and cry.

it is hartbreaking kev but would have to disagrea with the above...(sorry)

it would be a dying shame if they looked like parts of civy graveyards were decades have passed, families come and go and now theres nothing but weeds popping up.

i think its credit to the staff who look after the military graveyards. were as our groundsmen only cut the grass they dont touch the stone

i was at my grandparents over xmas and parts of the graveyard were a mess and some only dated back 1950's
