I think that it is a 9 mm Machinenpistole 28,II - used by German troops, Police and some special security units. Tom
I think that it is a 9 mm Machinenpistole 28,II - used by German troops, Police and some special security units. Tom I disagree - it's a Bergmann MP 18. (The 28 wouldn't take the snail drums he's carrying and, that besides, the uniform he's wearing suggests that the photo was taken about 1920/22 - years before the MP 28 came into existance.) Dave.
Dave, I will bow to your superior knowledge. I looked at the weapon and first thought it was the 18. I changed my mind when I saw the curved cock on the 28, which was missing on my photo of the 18. As I am no expert, I think it is over to you Dave. Regards Tom
Ok then. this should be quite simple for any WW1 buff... oh, damn! I know i know! but forget how is called ...
Dave, you are of course correct!!! It's MP18. I was so sure that it is going to be answered correctly after the hint I gave, that I didn't notice the different number in Smudger's post. My fault.
Ok then. this should be quite simple for any WW1 buff... maybe not! Time for a clue? Ribeyrolle, Sutter and Chauchat (and I've nearly given the gamne away there!!!)
Croonaert, Thanks for the clue or I would never have found that it was an RSC Mle 1917/1918 semi automatic rifle made in France. Apparently an excellent weapon and still in use 1939-40. Tom
That's correct Tom. It is , indeed, Le fusil automatique de 8 mm RSC modele 1917 . (the M1918 was slightly shorter in appearance). over to you now, I think. Dave
Correct Dave, both photos show the weapon being tested after capture in North Africa. Also came in a special Paratroop and Gebergsjäger version with small wheels. Some were fitted on the 251 halftracks. Over to you Dave.
