    Hi

Am looking at a serviceman who had the number 14042582.

Can anyone date this approximately ie from known dates of similar numbers?

    Cheers

My number was 14058366 conscripted 19th July 1945 so, if the numbers were issued in any logical sequence could be late 1944 early 1945 ????

Pete - don't know where the sequence kicked in as my number was 14377*** called up 3 /12/42 - and spent my first six weeks also at Bury St.Edmunds......this was followed by 144 - 145 - 146 - etc so 1405 is probably about right for late '44/early '45

I thought they started 142....but only because of the start date being 1942, so not exactly a definite!

I assume that 0 followed 9, rather than being at the start of the series.

I started my service at Maidstone, Kent so maybe each Primary Training Wing - Primary Training Centre were issued with seperate batches of numbers???

Pete - have seen a few 142 numbers - but no 141's .....so probably did start in '42 -- think they also came down from above rather than each ITC dishing them out - what would they do at the War Office if any old ITC gave out numbers..shhheeesh- they would have nothing to do after lunch !
    Cheers
