Looking through my Grandfather's unit diaries there is a saga regarding unloading tanks from the ships as they were delivered to port in Bisceglie in southern Italy. It appears that most of the kit is from the U.S and the unit diaries show that the tanks being serviced were predominately Sherman M4A4's.

The problem revolves around the tanks being shipped "dry charged." Who would have thought that such a small thing could generate "insurmountable difficulties."

The Major explains the problem very well....

    Hi,

Does the diary go on to list any census numbers from the tanks and other kit?

    Cheers

Hi Colin! Good to see you have some new info regarding your research! At least the Major sorted out the chaos. Thanks very much for posting.

    Jules.

    Hi Kevin / Jules,

    Kevin,

I have not come across any census numbers so far. There are weekly reports for servicing and I have attached a typical form. If I do come across some I will post.

    Cheers

    Colin

    Hello Colin,

Yes that is exactly what I was referring to. now I have to try and find the regiments the armoured cars were issued to. Interesting!

    Cheers
