    Cheers Soren.

May I ask out of curiosity how you came across the article ? I was born in Lewisham and have posted a couple of WW2 related articles to the area on here.

I would also be interested in knowing where you found the article. Like Drew, I was born in Lewisham and have an interest in the area.

Always read Drew's posts on Lewisham as they are very informative. Your successful hunt for the relatives of the WW1 medal recipient, although in neighbouring Catford was a cracker.

    Hi Chaps

I was born in Lambeth Hospital and brought up in Brixton (which was lucky for me in the 1980's as I remember here was no nuclear sign which would obviously stop an atom bomb at the borough border)

I lived in Hither Green Lane, Lewisham (4 years) opposite the 'Spotted Cow' pub (which is the reason I chose the flat.

I found this site as I am interested in the WW1 memorial in Ladywell Cemetery which is made of porous stone and is washing away as we speak it's unusual as it's a 3 cornered wall with the names and where killed running along it's length.

Something that I have never seen before, sorry if the spelling is kaput, I accidentally hit the source yesterday and am suffering the effects of 12% beer

In the most ancient Saxon records this place is called Levesham, that is, the house among the meadows; leswe, læs, læse, or læsew, in the Saxon, signifies a meadow, and ham, a dwelling.

What a small world we live in Soren. I also lived in Hither Green Lane Lane (the end nearer to Lewisham) but have no memories as my Family moved when I was 2. And from a time when to be Gay mean't you were happy and nothing else.

Stonewalls? The one opposite the Swimming bars in Ladywell- thats a gay bar. Spotted Cow was a gay up until a few years ago and may well still be as far as I'm aware.

I remeber it as the Castle. Do you still go in there then? I thought you lived in Ypres for some reason

Oh you used to lend them a hand ? You may know my brother if you are familiar with their customers. He used to drink in there or still does.

    Cheers

It was one of the only pubs you could go in without getting your head kicked in.

Interesting chat going on - thought i would actually point out that Lewisham is an ANAGRAM of I am Welsh so perhaps that is what you meant instead of "means"?! Unless you hadn't noticed?
Can't say i have ever been to Lewisham myself though. :)
