Ship's Movement cards

During the last couple of months I have, like many others I suspect, been downloading ship’s movement cards from TNA, mostly for Operation Aerial. After the exchanges over the City of Derby, I have compared them with the Lloyds List pages for the UK south coast. I have found that, particularly for those that are marked OHMS, the UK ports are often incorrect, and, in the main, the destination ports are not shown. I am surprised to find that some very ordinary cargo ships sailed with ‘sealed orders’ during that time.

I have only been able to check sailings for the month of June 1940, so I have no idea whether this disinformation continued, or the reason for it. It does mean that some of the sailings listed in books, including mine, may not be correct.
