    CWGC :: Cemetery Details

Have now decided to get on with searching for the graves of these servicemen & women who were foreign natiionals who served with the Commonwealth Forces & whose remains were repatriated.

As usual all grave finds will be subject to CWGC approval.

Initally I will be concentrating on the US as records are available on line in a language that I speak.

Re John Albert Arn. Info received from the US shows that the gravestone reads buried in England

From evidence from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial it seems as though he was originally buried in England at Chalford Tabernacle Graveyard, Gloucester, but his body was repatriated to Mount Calvary Cemetery. Therefore the headstone must predate the repatriation

Chris, is this to find people who should be on the register and aren't or on those already on the register, or both?

Interesting stuff as I had never heard of the Maidenhead Register.

Historical Information: Those named within the Maidenhead Register were all non-Commonwealth foreign nationals who died serving as members of Commonwealth Forces. Their remains were removed to their home countries and are presently commemorated solely by their database record and register entry.

Cannot really comment on how long the register has been in existence as I only stumbled on it by accident. Thought it was worth tracking down their graves because as it stands at the moment the register is their only commemoration. However I think in time when all leads on finding their graves have been exhausted then they will be added to their relevant service memorial.

Sorry about the late reply as I have been too attentive to the forums over Xmas

    Czech Republic x 3

    Denmark x 2

    France x 1

    Israel x 1

    Norway x 1

    Slovak Republic x 1

The most significant moment has arrived in the history of the Maidenhead Register.

81 Belgian airmen who served with the RAF have been removed from the regsiter & their commemoration has been moved to BRUSSELS TOWN CEMETERY BELGIAN AIRMEN'S FIELD OF HONOUR

This is an entirely new CWGC location which has resulted from the In From The Cold Project's research into these airmen

    MAY THEY REST IN PEACE

I seem to recall a thread on PPRuNe regarding a Greek fighter pilot who was killed when his Typhoon/Tempest was shot down late 1944. IIRC the discussion led to the info that his body had been repatriated. Something about him being one of the Greek top scorers. I'll try to find it in case it's in need of correction too....
