The mystery of my WW2 maps is nearing an end, I've finally found out what region they're from...Tobruk! so I am very pleased as you can imagine.

I would still like some help with the follow points if anyone has any good
    reference books on Tobruk.

    Tugan Area
    Bir Bu Assatein
    Butch Area
    Lale Patrols
I Section 2nd Queens Royal Regiment.

Also any information on the construction of the defence's around Tobruk, as on my maps I've got R47 upto R69, which I now know were defence posts and a reference to a Garth Suthers an officer in the 2/9th Infantry Bn of the 18th Infantry Brigade:

I was plattoon commander when we arrived in Tobruk, disembarking from a destroyer. On that first day our battalion had only one map, but we set off from the wharf about 1000 hours and marched for most of the day. At about 0200 hours that night the adjutant said to me, I'm buggered. Take your platoon on a bearing of x degrees - I forget which - for about 600 yards and when the stench of enemy dead is overpowering you will have arrived at your position...post R57.

R57 appears on two maps i have and is a point were the 6th Division had broken through the defences some months earlier and were in too much of a hurry to bury the dead.

    thanks in advance

I am interested in all of this as my father fought with the 2nd Queens at Tobruk and got a MID there! Any Queens info always interesting!
