I am trying to establish the exact name of a troopship that left Liverpool and arrived at Durban on Christmas Eve 1941.

All I have is the phonetic spelling - sounds like 'Ordona'.

Does this sound familiar to a 'shipping buff' out there?

I would be most grateful if someone can solve the mystery. Thank you.

    Hi Chris,

You got it nearly correct. Her name is 'Orduna' - launched in 1914 and owned by the Royal Mail Line. She was taken over as a troopship early in 1941 as which she served until 1950.

Here is a photograph of her:

Much appreciate that swift reply. I can go back to my old contact and reassure him that his memory hasn't completely gone! The picture is a bonus and might even provoke some more memories.

    Thanks again.

    Kind regards
