I'm looking for any information on a u-boat that surrendered to minesweepers and was taken to Loch Ewe in Scotland around the 8th May 1945. Can anyone tell me which U-boat this was?
Watcha NNC. You could try searching the Uboat database at uboat.net. Very informative, (especially about Royal Navy ships as well) and may have something. It would probably take you hours to find the info though. Kitty
I can offer the following info, not much but it might open more leads. It seems that a U-boat surfaced and surrendered (flying a black flag) to the minesweeper (Trawler FY993) HMS Beaumaris Castle on the 8 May 1945 and was taken into Loch Ewe. Sorry to say I cannot find the U-boats number. The following list is of U-boats which surrendered at sea and were brought into British ports. U 224, 249, 255, 278, 293, 294, 295, 312, 313, 318, 363, 427, 481, 485, 516, 532, 541, 668, 716, 764, 776, 802, 825, 826, 956, 968, 992, 997, 1009, 1010, 1023, 1058, 1105, 1109, 1165, 1231, 1305, 2326. I expect the Loch Ewe U-boat is among this list. Might be worth researching each U-boat. Regards Peter Clare

NNC, just whack the numbers into uboat.net in the uboat search engine and the records will come up. Kills, captains, and what happened to them. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Kitty
