Pre WWII there was a small arms range underground beneath Baker Street Tube Station, it belonged to the London Transport Shooting Club. During WWII it was used by SOE as a practice range, Violet Szabo was among the people who used it regularly. I have tried to gain more information but no-one in LT today seems to know much about it. LT also had a pre-war flying club several of whom later flew with the RAF
I know the Stock Exchange Rifle club has a City range: Stock Exchange Rifle Club London and Bisley Stock Exchange Rifle Club but also have a sneaking suspicion that the Civil Service Club might have facilities in the area. Sure a friend mentioned an underground range, but I don't trust my memory. Will enquire.
Hi to everybody ! I have obly recently found this wonderful site, when I was researching old Tube stations. I can confirm that there was a rifle range at Baker Street station. Back in the 50's I lived in Preston Road, near Wembley. My Dad was a keen rifle shooter and we used to go to the rifle range at Baker Street on a Sunday morning. I remember going down some corridors and coming to a door marke "private" Nowadays there would be much better security but back then we just strolled through the door, went down some steps and there was the rifle range. Can you imagine travelling on the Tube with a .22 rifle and loads of ammo these days !...happy days !
Hi, there is also a range in the bowels of the house of commons. They held some very nice .22 rifles of all makes Dave
