Was curious if there is a list of how many (and what) Allied vehicles were lost during the battle for Villers Bocage? I have only seen mention of 23-27 tanks, but nothing definitive. Ian
By coincidence I was looking at my 7AD file this morning... According to war diary 22nd Brigade 13th June 1944: 5RTR 1 Cromwell IV 4CLY 13 Cromwell IV 3 Cromwell V 2 Cromwell VI 3 Stuart 4 Vc Fireflies 1RB 14 1/2 tracks 8 Carriers Universal 8 Carriers Lloyd However, war diary 5th RTR states 4 Cromwells lost and contemporary accounts verify this. War diary 4CLY has following: 20 Cromwells 4 Fireflys 3 Humber scout cars 3 Stuarts 1 half track. I am inclined to believe regiment war diaries are more accurate as once the regiment had withdrawn a more accurate assessment of damage would have been made. I am not game to say how many were destroyed by Wittman alone... Cheers
