Hi all history buffs, The project in hand is transcribing documents found of the two Tank Brigades and their supporting units. First up will be 21st Army Tank Brigade - later re-titled 21st Tank Brigade - for the period 25th August 1944 to 12th January 1945. In process 12th RTR 1942-1945. It is reasonable to assume that they had them for 1939/40 but could not find them at Kew. Cheers, Gerry
Hi Gerry, not sure if you meant TNA couldn't locate, but I found this ref for 40 -41, 12 RTR http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=6&CATID=1064401&SearchInit=4&SearchType=6&CATREF=WO+166%2F1412 WO 166/1412 ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS: 12 Royal Tank Regiment. 1940 Nov.- 1941 Dec. Best wishes Diane
Hi Diane, Thanks for the update and greetings. When I was last at Kew I was told that the 1939/40 diaries were missing as were nearly all the attachments, including number 64 which has air photos. I am not taking to my usual visit this coming May, as some 40+ years of research how to minimise the likely risk of contractting dementia, particularly Alzheimer's Disease, is about to go initially in the Phoenix area. Plan to be over for the AGM later in the year, so we have a date for dinner at our usual Piggery...... Gerry
What a shame about the diaries, here's hoping they turn up filed elsewhere. Look forward to a date then - my treat this time! If you need any help with the transcribing, you know who to ask. All my best Diane
Thank you Diane. If someone going to KEW could photograph the 1939/40 diaries (if they are there) I will take up your kind offer to transcribe. A question for Adam. Methinks the WD of 12th RTR 1942/45 will be about 90 pages - hope to finish next week - OK to send as an attachment? Regards to both, Gerry
Gerry I still use your version of the 21st ATB Diaries for reference and has filled many holes in my memory........this Piggery beano which Diane is funding - she has that wrong as I shall deal with the bill ......so lets have some photo's of that event .......sorry I can't fly these or I would be surprising you..so have fun... All the very best Gerry - guess you are in Arizona at the moment......apologies -the Gothic Line Battles ...... Cheers Tom
