A familiar pic that is the featured pic for wikipedia today.

Lieutenant Walter L. Chewning, Jr., USNR, the Catapult Officer, is climbing up the plane's side to assist the pilot from the burning aircraft. The pilot, Ensign Byron M. Johnson, escaped without significant injury.

My question for you, how big are Lt Chewing's kahunas? He must have quite a set.

In all sincerity, if the time ever presents itself, I hope that I am able to show at least half the bravery of either of these men.

Simply amazing, how anyone can have that kind of bravery is beyond me.

The evidence of that picture implies 'big enough to use like a spacehopper'... maybe that's how he got onto the side of the plane?
Astonishing shot, sometimes quite moving when you see what human beans, at their best, will do.

It's the drop tank. Bomb or drop tank, either one would be enough to kill him.

Note the apparent nonchalance of the crewmember in the catwalk.

That certainly is an awe-inspiring picture. There is a similar one in which a Hellcat's belly tank burst upon landing and caught fire. Just as in this pick, a deck handler jumped up to assist the pilot.

    BIG stones.
