A WW2 'event': "West Cumberland at War" Date: Tuesday 7 April 2015 (7.30 p.m.) (An illustrated presentation) Venue: The Beacon Museum, West Strand, Whitehaven, Cumbria. CA28 7LY (U.K.) Speaker: Jeff Wilson [Author, former soldier, college lecturer, known on "WW2 Talk" as "jeffbubble"] 'Friends' of the Museum (free); visitors (£1) ............................. Local historian and author Jeff Wilson speaks about West Cumberland during the Second World War. The talk is based upon Jeff Wilson's research for his book of the same name. World War Two was the time when evacuees came to West Cumberland to avoid German bombing of the big cities, The Solway Firth became known as 'Hudson Bay' because of the Canadian pilots training at RAF Silloth and the Danish fishing fleet found its wartime refuge at Whitehaven. These events, and more, form the basis of Jeff Wilson's talk.

good day ritsonvaljos.sm.yesterday.01:39pm.re:west cumberland at war,a very interesting post, thank you for posting.it is good to read the history of other places,i wonder if any of those tea pots still exist.regards bernard85
Hello Bernard, The one seen in the photograph earlier in this thread is displayed at the museum where Jeff was giving his presentation. I saw another one in the Memorial Museum at Caen (Normandy) so doubtless there are other teapots like this around somewhere. It may be they are all in museums.
Here is a photograph of Jeff (jeffbubble of WW2 Talk) with a copy of his book. There was quite a lot of detailed research that went into the talk.
A very entertaining evening learning about West Cumberland at War, well done Jeff I really enjoyed it. Regards Mike.
