    Hello
Herbert ‘Bert’ Gwyn Turner: Bert as he was known played professional soccer for Charlton Athletic and he was capped 8 times for Wales pre WW2. On the outbreak of hostilities Bert joined the RAF and I am trying to find where he was stationed. Looking at AIR 78 from the TNA it gives his personal/service number as 1192602. His index card is marked Militia and there is ‘JH’ marked on the card. He carried on playing football; played in a further 8 War-time Internationals with Wales and regularly played in RAF teams through 1941-1943. I believe I am correct in saying that footbalIers could play for clubs near to where they were stationed - in August 1944 through to April 1945 Bert Turner played soccer for Lovell’s Athletic, Newport, Gwent.

I should add that between 1940-1944 Bert Turner played 18 times for Charlton Athletic; so am I looking for 2 stations, one near London and one in Wales?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Regards, Roy
