    Went here on Thursday.
    Yorkshire Air Museum

It was a toss up between Eden Camp and the YAM.
As I want to learn abit more about the Air War we opted for the YAM.
Excellent Museum, really well presented, I was impressed with it.
I learnt alot, the children loved it.
Lots of pictures to follow when I've sorted them out.

    Owen,

I have to agree that Elvington is a super place to visit. I managed a visit several years ago and they were renovating an old Avro Anson, don't know if it is completed.

Whilst there, several days after a show, I had the privilage of seeing a Hurricane, the Black night fighter version, take off after having some minor repairs completed.
That in itself made the trip worthwhile.

I also found the Barnes Wallis collection to be really interesting.

    Regards

    Tom

An excellent Museum complexand well worth a visit.
For me the Air Gunners collection was really something else , "Friday the 13th" is not to be missed.

Photos now resized and uploaded to Photobucket.
Starting in the car park was this Cheiftain.
A sign said it was a one off experimental model with a German MAN (I think) engine fitted.

An old Sacarcen was also in the carpark.
Great start to an Avaition meseum eh?
    Two AFVs.

Ah yes they do have a plane there too, a Gloster Javelin.

Building 13 , the French Officers Mess.
I never knew about the French Squadrons in the RAF.
Elvingdon had two, 346 'Guyenne' and 347 'Tunisie' , I bought a good book on them in the bookshop.

Other displays in the building 14 & 15.

Looks great mate, don't believe I've been there, which is odd as I grew up in the area and Dad was/is plane obsessed.
Ah, I see it was opened in the late 80's, we'd moved South by then.

That Turret collection alone puts it on my list of 'things to visit next Time I'm in Scarborough or York'.

I wonder if this is an original grave marker, it's in the Chapel.
F/O Abbey was from York just down the road.

    Haven't got a photo, sorry.

Here's me, 6 ft 5, next to a Tallboy bomb.

Building 20 , the Barnes Wallis room, had this original Bouncing bomb.

These photos were on the wall, too.

    Owen,

Wonderful photos, just like being there again, only better, because it was a long time since I visited and it appears to have expanded so much since.

    Regards
