I am not privy to the list of Vladimir Putin's objectives for the invasion of Ukraine, but I feel confident in stating that 'revealing the piss-poor state of the Russian Army to the world' did not feature highly on it.

Is it a cunning plan ?
Probe for weak spots , exhaust defenders then smash through with better fresher units.

    Then again , maybe not.

I've learned that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has ordered not to attack the tanks and armored cars, but the thin skinned fuel and supply trucks that drive behind the columns. So the Russian tanks will run out of fuel. The Ukrainian army captures the crew and then uses the tank against the Russian army. It's really painful how incredibly incompetent Russia can be at times.
How very cunning! A Partisan war aimed at the vulnerable supply lines ... not unlike 1941? This implies that the farther the Russian spearheads advance the more trouble they get.

Tanks run out of petrol? Ukrainian driver offers them a tow ... back to Russia (!)
Stalen ballenmeneer komt even buurten bij Ruski tankje

Typical ... none of the troops knows where they are or are heading for.

Of course you also can attack armour directly:
Antitankman komt ff het front checken

... especially when they venture in column into a build up area:
Dachten de Russen dat ze welkom waren?

... or more spontaniously ... speaking of guts ...
    Oprotten met die tanks!
Bewoners wandelen tanks het dorp uit

... just 'borrow' an armoured vehicle:
    Boer steelt Russisch voertuig
    Boer steelt Russisch voertuig #2

    ... or give them a 'Drive-by Molotov':
    Drive by molotov

Thusfar the Russian Army has shown little efficiency; is it lack of will to fight. This is exactly what happened in Crimea in 2014. Soldiers are conscripted and told that they are going on exercise, a few hours/days later they get out of a truck/plane and they are in Ukraine to conquer the country. Like these POW Russians. Who probably thought they were on a military practice:
    Russische Domkopskys

I hope this ridiculous war won't make people hate Russians, only Putin. It is his, and only his, war and that of his yes-nodding clique and lackeys around him.

The awfulness of the bloodshed speaks for itself and there is little to indicate that escalation is avoidable. Speaking to a much saddened Russian lady (now domiciled in UK) she saw atavism and twisted senses of patriotism and destiny as fundamentally underwriting events: the Русь, where they came from and the special place of Kyiv in that history. Hence, she anticipated the messages as described within #15 to follow and feared more. Displaying typical irony, the epithet ‘Rus Putin’ was voiced. In Russia, the definition of peace is the absence of war. This is where we are.

It seems the Russians try to seal off Kyiv to the west because thats far more economical than to get involved in unpredictable urban battles there.
And while the world stares at Kyiv like a rabbit at a snake, the Red Army is rolling up the coast of the Sea of Azov, heading for Mariupol.
While to the west they have already formed a bridgehead at Kherson to secure this advance. Will they close the gap at Mariuopol, they may establish a secure logisitics line for further Operations:
If Kharkiv falls further north, then the Ukrainian troops east of the Dnieper will face a really serious problem, because the Zaporizhzhia/Dnipropetrovsk region seems open for a large-scale pincer attack.
It depends whether the Russians can organize their logistics faster than Ukraine can deploy troops there.

Looks like the AN225 is gone.

All I'm adding here for the mo, as we all know this thread will quite likely have to close eventually. Already attracting increased analytics traffic.

Off to make sure we still have a block on .ru email addresses registering after the last spam wave. Not that it makes much difference.
Almost a shame, as would be happy to get a view from internal Russian resistance. Those protests in St Petersburg were not part of the plan 'back in the day'.

    Carry on for now, chaps.
Would move to 'post-war', but think barracks posts are still hidden from non-members. So maybe in a while.

Adam you are correct we have kept this going as support and I thank forum members for keeping it so. Closing it for "analytics traffic." reason is a good reason in protecting the forum or at least hiding it for now.

I would add that our varying age group (even the older ones) have not seen such a worrying scenario since WW2

    thank you

I am 64 and have not seen anything as concerning as this, probably the last time was the "Bay of Pigs" and Cuban crisis, not quite old enough to remember but was told enough about it that it worried the entire world.

If the Russians had indeed planned to overrun the country with a lightning strike, the Ukrainians have probably thrown a spanner in their works:
The Rasputitza will soon set in, making long-range ground operations much more difficult even for the experienced Russians.
I'm curious to see what the planned negotiations will produce.

At the moment, however, it would be urgently necessary to take care of the countless refugees who are piling up at all western borders without suitable infrastructure
